32. PCAA Monthly Newsletter September 2023-PENFEST EDITION

Penicuik Community Arts Association
Newsletter for Members and Friends September 2023

Dear PCAA Members and Friends,

Penfest 2023 – Penicuik’s very own Arts Festival – takes place over ten days, from Friday 22nd September until Sunday 1st October 2023. Thanks to the efforts of Graham McDonald, we’re offering a full Music Festival programme at different venues in town from talented and experienced local musicians! Many tickets are priced on a “pay what you can” basis (£5, £10 or £15).

Our very popular annual Open Art Exhibition for the Penicuik Turner and People’s Choice prizes will also be open for free viewing during café opening hours (10.00 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.) at the West Street Arts Centre from Saturday 23rd September until Saturday 28th October. You are welcome to submit up to three pieces of art work for this exhibition – please contact us for information (penicuikarts.org@gmail.com, or our website https://www.penicuikarts.org/ – scroll down this home page for links).

This year, our judge for the Penicuik Turner prize is Jaya Ogilvie, a multi-disciplined artist and tutor, and Masters graduate from Sunderland University.

The People’s Choice prize is judged by you! Please visit the exhibition during Penfest week (Saturday 23rd September – Saturday 30th September) to register your vote!

Further details of all events can be found on our website, and on posters at the Arts Centre (4 West Street, Penicuik, EH26 9DL).

Tickets are on sale now from our website (https://www.penicuikarts.org/shop), and from the Arts Centre cafe. It would be great to see you at one or more of the Penfest events!

Can you help?

Even an hour or so would make a difference! Please email penicuikarts.org@gmail.com if you can help. Big thanks in anticipation of some responses!

We need volunteers for Penfest

 – people willing to lend a hand with anything that needs doing at any of the events.
– people willing to contribute some food or drink to the final Penfest celebration gathering (the party-piece Ceilidh) on Sunday 1st October 2pm

After Penfest, we need volunteers to help with some decorating jobs at the Arts Centre:

– the café
– the café kitchen
– the Arts Centre entrances
– room 1
– room 2
– the corridors upstairs.

Please email penicuikarts.org@gmail.com if you can help. Big thanks in anticipation of some responses!

In our next newsletter

After Penfest, I’ll be in touch again with news of our Classical Concert Series, and our new season of Storytelling activities.
Best wishes!
Sue
